Lecture: Warwick House and Gertrude Mitchell by Sally Trepte
This talk is given by the granddaughter of Gertrude Mitchell, one time owner of Warwick House from the early 1940s. It is sure to stir poignant memories among some of our audience who savored the atmosphere of this high class department store on the Wells Road. Great Malvern had enjoyed the presence of this establishment since 1833 and customers delighted in the choice of furnishings, furniture, funerary accessories and fashions for over 150 years. Gertrude was a remarkable and perhaps formidable business woman and we will learn much about how she aspired to serve the people of Malvern and neighbouring counties when she took over Warwick House.
All Winter Lectures are held at Christchurch Hall in Avenue Road, Great Malvern, unless otherwise stated.
Lectures begin at 2.30 and admission is free to Friends of Malvern Museum or £3 for visitors.
Refreshments are served during the meeting for a small charge.
