Family and local history research

This page provides information on how to research family and local history using material in the museum’s collection and archive.  It will eventually provide links to the catalogue of maps, books and archive material held by the museum.

Malvern Museum has a reserve collection of local maps, books, postcards and pictures. There is also a small archive of local documents relating to properties, people, and clubs and societies.  These records are not usually available to the public; however a full catalogue is being prepared. Enquiries are welcomed from academic researchers and authors, and from family and local historians.

Enquiries can be made on the museum website, and if appropriate a visit can then be arranged to the museum to view the relevant records.  Please note that the museum is normally staffed by volunteer stewards with no detailed knowledge of (or access to) the reserve collections and archives.  Please do not visit the museum with your initial enquiry, unless you live locally, as it can take several days for the curators to respond, and your journey may be wasted.  Initial enquiries can be made via the contact us page on the website or by telephone.

For those unable to visit the museum, or requiring expert assistance, the museum offers a research service. The first hour is free and subsequent hours are charged at £20 an hour (up to a limit agreed in advance).

This page is still under construction – links to the catalogue do not work
